Housing & Solarization Project

On May 8, President Obama signed Senate Bill 39 into law, permanently rescinding the “Bennett Freeze” and ending 43 years of US government imposed restrictions denying people living on 1.6 million acres in the western portion of the Navajo Nation the ability to build or repair their homes.A critical part of Forgotten People’s efforts is to find comfort and shelter for the people. Only 3 percent of the families in these communities have electricity and only 10 percent have running water (HR5168, 2004). Forgotten People is currently developing protocols and working with Habitat for Humanity and work crews so we can build traditional and sustainable housing with solarization so we can rebuild our communities.
